No need to give multiple entrance exams and their fees. Parents need not hustle around for their child’s admission. IIT council and the ministry of human resource development (HRD) has decided to conduct common entrance test for all IIT’s / NIT’s and state boards. Now there will be only single entrance test from 2013 to eradicate the increasing scenario of coaching institutions and enhance the quality of education in intermediate.
This proposal merges IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) with All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) including fixed weightage for intermediate 12th board exams.
The call for single entrance test which would merge IIT’s, AIEEE and various state boards was not accepted by the state governments. Moreover the opposition for the common entrance test is coming from the IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi.
The opposition of the proposal was done by IIT Kanpur senate and is likely to be followed by IIT Delhi. They would conduct their own entrance exam. IIT council said:
- The common entrance test should not be implemented before 2014.
- To dilute the content of common entrance test.
- Increase in the fee structure that will be payable in instalments.
The decision of proposal of this rule and its implementation from the year 2013 is the sole right of IIT council under the IIT act. HRD minister Kapil Sibal asked to reconsider the decision to hold this test from 2013 onwards.
Also, Kapil Sibal said that the excellence of quality in IIT-JEE is respected and should not be diluted. A method is discovered such that it would not compromise the excellence of IIT syllabus and also improve the school system. The future of the students will be much in the hands of their 12th class result.
